Lesson Safety Protocols

Water Safe Kids adheres to Infant Swimming Resource safety protocols to protect our students. We are committed to providing the safest and most efficient lessons possible. Through extensive instructor education and strict adherence to safety protocols this technique has provided millions of safe lessons.

National Registration

The national registration process is a screening tool of each child to ensure they will benefit from and can safely participate in lessons. This information is submitted and reviewed by a team of doctors and nurses. In some cases the instructor will be provided additional directions and protocols to ensure the safest possible lesson for each individual student.

BUDS Sheet

Each lesson will honor the unique physiology of the student. Therefore, instructors ask parents to complete the BUDS sheet so that we may monitor bowel, urine, diet and sleep. This information provides the instructor with possible interferences that may affect lessons. ISR asks that parents do not feed the student food or liquids for 1½ hours prior to lessons. No dairy products 2 hours prior to lessons. No one works well on a full stomach and children are no different.

Individualized One-on-One lessons

Your child will receive hands on one-on-one safe instruction from a highly certified and effective instructor. It is counter productive to the child's learning when an instructor must divide time in the water between several unskilled students.

10 minutes per day lesson

Your child will be working hard during lessons and the will be tired afterward. Since many young children do not engage in many activities for longer than ten minutes, ISR takes advantage of the prime learning span without exceeding it. Going longer than 10 minutes may mean loss of focus and retention and increase the risk of fatigue.

5 days a week, Monday-Friday

The consistency of lessons five days per week reinforces retention of skills learned in the water leading to higher success rates.

Appropriate swim attire

You may dress your child in a swimsuit if he/she is toilet trained. It is a requirement that each child 3 yrs. and younger or anyone not toilet trained wears a washable (non-disposable) swim diaper as well as plastic pants for children who are not yet potty trained. This "double protection" will help to ensure a safe pool environment for everyone. Disposable diapers and disposable swim diapers do not meet ISR standards for containment of feces and therefore cannot be used. Please bring a plastic bag to each lesson to carry the diaper changes and wet attire home.

Monitoring Fatigue

Instructor frequently monitors students for temperature fatigue. This is a pre-indicator of physical fatigue. This allows the instructor to know how to proceed throughout the course of the lesson.

Hand out after lesson

At the conclusion of the lesson, the instructor will lay the child on their left side on towels. This will allow the child to rest for a few minutes and will also allow for any air that was swallowed to escape more easily. In addition, this allows the student's blood to flow more freely. 3 Towel Rule - ISR and Water Safe Kids require 3 towels per child every day. Two towels are to lie on and 1 to dry the child. This policy is in place to prevent the transmission of germs on the pool deck or mat.
