I just wanted to write a follow-up report on Logan's ISR training and express our appreciation for you as his teacher. First of all, we really do appreciate you offering and teaching this extra measure of drowning prevention. In addition, making sure all of the family members that will be swimming w/him know and understand the drills needed to continue the efforts at home.
Mark and I took Logan to the pool at the Wigwam resort. Mark did his drills when he first got in and then played like normal. Logan, wanting to complete different parts of the training while in the pool, caught the eye of a woman watching her 2 1/2 year old boy play in the water. He was wearing a swim suit w/floats inserted into it. She was watching Logan very carefully and finally said, "your boy should be in that video, did he take that swimming class where they teach the kids to float?" WOW, this gave us the perfect opportunity to tell someone how terrific this training is, how exciting.
We told her about the training and she then told us she sent her son to that same training and didn't get the results she was seeing in Logan, therefore the only way she can play w/him in the water is w/that suit. She was pretty amazed by it all. She was visiting Arizona and said her training was in another state.
Well, we continued to talk about how great it was. A little while later, she said, "My husband is coming, would you mind showing him what our son is supposed to be doing?" Her husband arrived, Logan gladly did his drills and her husband was with the same reaction. They were so surprised it actually worked and could be done. Of course, I told her his grandparents took him and that we, as parents, had difficulty watching in the beginning, but it sure paid off. People will say it is "expensive" or that the child will eventually learn, or "all you need to do is watch your kids all the time" but there is no compromise when talking about investing into your child's life. And, there will be circumstances in which your child may find the water no matter how vigilant a parent you think you are.
We will tell everyone who will ask and listen what this training has done for Logan, as well as our own peace of mind. We will continue to watch him very closely around water and watch him grow as a swimmer, but this is just another preventative measure we are very pleased with. AND, Logan just has a great time, he often will repeat everything you said to him "go to the bar buddy, find the bar" telling us that it is something that will stay w/him forever. He does have a respect for water that I think has a lot to do with your training.
A special Thank you to you, Mr. Carlos!!! =)

- This class is the best thing we have ever done for our baby! :)
- With so many drownings in AZ, I don't understand why more people do not know about this wonderful class
- Car seats save lives and so does this class. It should be a law, too, to give your baby/toddler these lessons (or at least know about them)!
- Money-wise, this class is a lot more economical than people originally think. Don't let the weekly price scare. The skills learned will stay with your child forever, and can SAVE YOUR CHILD’S LIFE.
- Our instructor was always patient, always gentle, always consistent with our son. We would recommend him to everyone!
- Other "swim classes" may teach your child to like or love water, but not to respect it the way these ISR lessons do.
- Our baby started out nervous and unsure in the water. What we have now is a confident little guy that LOVES to be in the pool with us! And he loves to swim!
Mom of Jack, age 13 months
Alyse had been an ISR student with you for perhaps 3 weeks when I began to wonder just how long it would take before she demonstrated that the skills she was being taught were actually sticking in her mind. Alyse is typically a fast learning child, however, by this time I hadn't noticed significant progress in her water safety skills. As you will recall, she cried during almost every session, although she was very excited about the class and looked forward to her lesson on a daily basis. Nevertheless, she seemed to be "stuck" at the starfish level and didn't appear to be ready to advance.
On the weekend following her third week, Alyse and I were playing around in the shallow end of our pool. I was only about a foot away from her and was watching her splash around and get her face wet. At one point she asked me for her ball, which was about another foot away--within arms length. So I turned to grab it and as I turned back around, I saw Alyse swimming up to the surface of the water and get into her starfish position! She must have stepped off of the ledge after me. You can imagine my surprise to see Alyse swim up for air and float as she had never learned this specific skill before. Up until this point she had "grabbed the bar" and learned how to float on her back; however, she had not yet learned (or demonstrated that she was ready to learn) how to go from one skill to the other. I was close enough to where I could have picked her up out of the water, but I didn't. I watched her as she floated on her back for at least another 30 seconds...completely calm...secure...and you could tell that she felt safe. I then picked her up and she asked me if she could float again!! I knew at that point that her instincts had been heightened through ISR, and that she truly was learning how to survive in the event of a water mishap.
I have to tell you that immediately all of my concerns were eased and I was so proud of her. While I was always a believer in ISR upon learning of it a little over a year ago, as a parent, I wondered just how effective the skills would be with my child. Although Alyse is never left unsupervised in the water, and we do not stray more than a foot or two away from her, I am confidant in her ability to use her new-found skills if needed and in our decision to enroll her in ISR. I have since shared my story with many parents that I have encountered and will continue to stress the importance of equipping your children with appropriate water safe skills. While it is not a substitute for direct supervision, it is an added safety measure that can save a life!
Thank you so much for doing the work that you do!!

"You looked so serene in the pool with the babies. I could see a connection, a bonding and a loving look on your face that was beautiful... and I am sure that is comforting to the parents also. I enjoyed watching very much." -Grandparent of student

We truly appreciate your support & dedication." -Parents of 6 year old student
"What I saw on the news has made me all the more determined to get the word out about an opportunity that is available for children right here in Arizona. Just last week I had the chance to see a friend's baby participate in what was probably one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. My friend has been taking her 14 month old daughter to these water survival classes every day for about 4 weeks to sessions that are being conducted by Tammy and Carlos Machado through their company, Water Safe Kids. The classes are always done one-on-one with each child. There was another little girl probably around two years old who Tammy also worked individually, and another little boy "on deck" waiting to begin after the second little girl. What was so astounding is that even though each child was a different age and at different stages in this important life saving training, they both were "getting" it! There were a number of completely astounding things that Tammy had taught each child to do as part of their individual survival classes, but THE most impressive to me was that even if either of the two girls were crying, the absolute second prior to either of them being submerged in the water, they had learned to stop crying, take a breath, and then pop up to the surface, roll over and float. This move would provide priceless minutes and another barrier in a drowning situation." -Friend of 14 month old student
"Thank you for spending the last 8 weeks teaching me how to be confident in the water and stay safe! Now I can have a lifetime of fun in the water, thanks to you both." -Shani, 14 month old student!
