Water Safety
Since this time yesterday, 11 infants and young children drown in the United States. Another 39 fell into a body of water and will suffer permanent brain damage. Drowning ranks as the second most prominent cause of accidental death for children under the age of 4 in the United States. In Arizona, Florida, California, Texas drowning is leading cause of death for infants and young children.
In Maricopa County between the years 2000 and 2008 there were 980 child water related incidents. 173 of those children tragically lost their lives. These children did not have to lose their lives. What can we do as parents and caregivers to prevent drowning? Drowning is PREVENTABLE!
